UX is the acronym for User Experience. UX Design encompass the design of apps or other software products as well as websites. While a good web designer is focused on the end user’s experience, the UX designer takes it to the next level and applies a specific methodology around the user. UX Design covers the factors like ease of access, response to the user actions and the delight delivered in users every interaction with the app. This part includes navigation, structure, content as well as the layout of the app. This involves the development of User Personas and a collaborative, iterative approach to defining the story arc and the functionality required. Before design is contemplated, the UX designer will create clickable prototypes or simple static wireframes. The UX designer will then observe the client navigating through this prototype in an informal or formal usability testing process. And these usability testing may happen again after design has been applied and before launch of a website or application.

UI stands for User Interface, UI defines how an app looks and interacts with the user, which includes elements like color pattern, fonts, layout, and illuminated characters, etc. It plays an important role in the usability of an app. UI designers traditionally are experts in designing machine to human interfaces. UI Design is more synonymous with front-end development, i.e., managing complex information, tasks and workflows and distilling it into screens and flows that are intutitive and make something complex appear simple.

In a nutshell, both UI and UX design plays an important role in the development process for an app to function efficiently and fulfill its objectives. The ultimate goal of UI/UX design is to achieve customer satisfaction by enhancing their experience.

API ( Application program interface ) is a set of routines, protocols, tools for building software applications . An API specifies how software components should interact and APIs are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. APIs often come in the form of a library that includes specifications or routines, data structures, object classes and variables. APIs can be web-based, or specific to a platform. An API is a list of commands as well as the format of those commands that one program can send to another. It is used so that individual programs can communicate with one another directly and use each other’s functions. API’s are provided by any program that allows interaction with other programs. People who write programs but wishes to use the functionality that already exist in other programs can simply look at the API documentation to find the list of commands available to them. An API can also be expressed as a set of things you can access from software that if you communicate with them properly, something will happen in a well documented way. In the context of the web, the API’s generally allow you to send commands to programs running on the servers that you connect to from your browser or with the browser itself. This allows you to access resources only available on the server. Google has APIs for search, calendars, translations, etc. Facebook and Twitter have APIs that allow software to automatically post status updates. Apple provides many APIs for building iPhone apps. UI and APIs are just ways to hide the complexity of web services.
